Minimizing Microplastics, Naturally

Why We’re Committed to Minimizing Microplastics at Farm To Smash

At Farm to Smash, we care deeply about what goes into your food—and what doesn’t. Our mission is built on clean eating, thoughtful sourcing, and real ingredients that we’re proud to serve not just to guests, but to our own families. That care extends beyond what’s in the food itself to how it’s prepped, stored, and served—including our conscious efforts to minimize microplastic exposure wherever we can.

So, What Are Microplastics?

Microplastics are tiny fragments of plastic—often invisible to the eye—that can leach into food and drinks from packaging and prep surfaces. Research shows these particles may contribute to inflammation, hormone disruption, and long-term health concerns. They're everywhere, from bottled drinks to fast food wrappers, and once inside our bodies, they don’t just disappear.

At Farm to Smash, we believe clean food should be truly clean—free from artificial additives, seed oils, and yes, even microplastics wherever we can reasonably avoid them.

How We Minimize Microplastics

Here are some intentional steps we’ve taken to keep your food truly clean:

  • Wooden Cutting Boards
In our kitchen, you won’t find plastic boards breaking down during food prep. We use NSF-certified wooden cutting boards to eliminate one of the most common microplastic sources in restaurants.

  • Canned Beverages Only
We avoid plastic bottled drinks in favor of aluminum cans. Why? Because when plastic bottles sit in warm environments (like in transport trucks or walk-ins), microplastics can leach into the liquid. Cans don’t have that problem—and they’re easier to recycle, too.

  • Minimal Plastic Packaging
We intentionally keep packaging simple and streamlined. No unnecessary plastic wraps or layers—just what’s needed to serve your food safely and responsibly.

Why It Matters to Us

We don’t avoid microplastics to jump on a trend. We do it because it matters—for your health, for our staff, and for the kind of food system we believe in building.

Because Health Isn’t Just About Ingredients.

You’ve heard us talk about clean ingredients, seed oil-free spreads, tallow-fried fries, and all-natural everything. Microplastics may be invisible, but they can still impact health—and we’re not okay with that.

Because Clean Eating Should Be Real

To us, “clean eating” isn’t a buzzword. It’s a commitment to preparing food as close to nature as possible—without fake oils, synthetic fillers, or plastic particles sneaking their way into every bite.

Because We Feed You Like We Feed Ourselves

We prep and serve with the same care we’d use at home. That means looking at every layer—from the grill to the cutting board to the cup in your hand—and asking, “Would we serve this to our own family?” If the answer is no, it doesn’t belong in our kitchen.

A Work in Progress — With Purpose

We’re not claiming perfection—but we are proud of the intentional steps we’ve taken to minimize microplastics in your meal. Every wooden cutting board, canned beverage, and simplified packaging choice is part of a bigger mission: to serve real food, done right, with transparency and integrity.

Because clean food isn’t just about what you see—it’s about what you don’t.
